ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born on Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in August of 1984, Jared was raised in the small town of Oak Harbor, Washington. A mostly obscure upbringing of little note was highlighted by intense feelings of loneliness. A disillusioned kid, Jared spent much of his free time wondering the woods and beaches of the northeastern part of the island.
A family relocation to Tacoma, Washington in 1997 would mark a dramatic shift in the course of Jared’s life. Jared’s connection with graffiti art began the day he moved into town. A moment of watching someone tag a storefront from the back window of his parent’s van would be a visual impression burned into his mind for the remainder of his life. Jared’s high school years would become a season that was consumed by a fierce and all-consuming passion for the craft.
However, in 2002, at 18, his life took a dramatic turn when he survived a near-death experience while serving in the Marine Corps. This event set off a period of intense personal struggle, marked by addiction and hardship. Despite these challenges, Jared instinctively sought structure and purpose, with graffiti serving as a grounding force during these turbulent years. In fact, some of his best works of graffiti were created in this period of personal turmoil.
After several years of heavy drug use, by divine intervention Jared stumbled upon a program through the VA that paid for his school in full. He left Tacoma, quit hard drugs, and began working his way through school. After completing the welding and fabrication program at Spokane Community College in 2007, he moved back to Tacoma and began a career in heavy industrial manufacturing.
Though his graffiti career and building career over the next handful of years were on a trajectory upward, his personal life was cratering once again. By the summer of 2013 Jared was struggling to maintain a functioning addiction problem. At a crucial crossroads, an emotion-based decision to quit his job marked the start of a transformative journey of spiritual and personal growth. He emerged from a one-year hiatus, sober and accelerating in life. He went back to work and continued developing his technical skills of building and made a commitment to pivoting from graffiti to contemporary art.
In 2015 he dove into learning computer-aided design programs, i.e. CAD, under his new employer. Designing both simple architectural precast products and industrial manufacturing equipment, the next decade would see Jared expanding his perspective of form and structure in a whole new way. Integrating these new skill sets into his artwork has elevated the quality of his output to a whole new level. Since building a studio at his home residence in North Tacoma in 2018, Jared has produced and sold a vibrant collection of large scale works on canvas. He has worked on a wide variety of projects ranging from design consulting, large scale murals, live painting events, and gallery exhibitions.
Jared's life is an ever expanding testament to the power of God’s grace and mercy. A story of perseverance, overcoming adversity, and personal reinvention, Jared’s work speaks to the grueling nature of the Hero’s Journey and the bittersweet taste of triumph.
